The American ANTHONY SERATELLI, the BEST Hitter of the Coastal Cup Baseball

Rick Currier Cape Cod Baseball League's Hall of Fame

RIK CURRIER, Chatham Pitcher

The USC hurler enjoyed two All-Star seasons for the Chatham A's, going 5-2 with a 2.37 ERA in 1998 and posting a perfect 7-0 mark in 1999 with a sparkling 1.34 ERA. He was named Co-Ouststanding Pitcher of the Year in 1999. He was also selected to mid-season and final All-Star teams during his banner season in 1999. The hard throwing Currier signed with the New York Yankees.

Character builder or pressure-cooker: parents and youth sports

(CNN) -- Fresh air, physical activity and a chance to run around with friends are big draws for the millions of kids who fill football fields, baseball diamonds, soccer pitches and basketball courts across the United States. And experts say children can also learn some valuable life lessons -- if their parents stay on the sidelines. "Sports are a wonderful vehicle for kids to learn how to deal with adversity, the sense of learning how to master skills," said Rick Wolff, chairman of the Center for Sports Parenting and a former professional baseball player and coach. "For example, if they're learning how to dribble a basketball first with one hand then with another, [it] gives them a sense of accomplishment." The National Council of Youth Sports estimates that about 41 million boys and girls play organized sports, and that number has been growing steadily. (Full story)
